This model is an alternative to incarceration for offenders suffering from a substance use disorder that is driving the criminal behavior at issue (e.g., stealing property to pay for drugs). Eligible individuals can choose to participate in the treatment court instead of the traditional justice system, which diverts them into treatment and rehabilitation, monitored by a judge and health professionals.
